2016 Golden Globe Nominations
The nominations for the 2016 Golden Globes were announced Thursday morning, and while there were some snubs and some surprises, the stars who did get nominated are in disbelief.
Actors and actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence and Matt Damon, who were snubbed from the SAG Awards nominations yesterday, received validation for their work when America Ferrera, Chloe Grace Moretz, Dennis Quaid and Angela Bassett read their names and others’ names during the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s live-stream, so here is what the stars are saying upon hearing their names and movies/TV shows called out from the podium.
Daniel Pemberton, Best Original Score – Motion Picture (Steve Jobs): “Wow! I just got nominated for a Golden Globe – that is proper bonkers! I wanted to ‘Think Different’ in how I approached this score and working with a cinematic visionary like Danny Boyle meant I could. Since Steve Jobs was brilliantly written by Aaron Sorkin in three acts I took three different musical approaches, so Danny got three scores for the price of one – Bargain of the year!”
Regina King, Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited-Series or TV Movie (American Crime): “I am so elated and honored to be nominated for my first Golden Globe for a role that resonated with the viewers. I want to thank my fellow cast members and the whole crew of America Crime as it takes a village and I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Amy Schumer, nominated in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category for Trainwreck, reacted to the news on NBC’s Today. “Yay! I got nominated! It feels so good,” she told Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. “It really feels good, and I’m proud of what I accomplished, but yeah, it really is more about the revenge.”

Jennifer Lawrence, nominated in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category for Joy: “I am incredibly grateful to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press for my role in Joy. It was an enormous privilege to play such an amazing women. And it is an honor to be among the other extraordinarily talented women in this category. I share this with David O. Russell and the incredible cast and crew.”
Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth, Best Original Song (“See You Again,” from Furious 7): “Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for recognizing ‘See You Again’ with a nomination for Best Original Song. We aimed to write something that truly honored the legacy of Paul Walker and are humbled it has touched so many people.”
Brian Wilson, Best Original Song (“One Kind of Love,” from Love & Mercy): “My life, my love, my Melinda—God only knows what I’d be without her. She was the inspiration for ‘One Kind of Love’ and just woke me to tell me the song has been nominated for a Golden Globe—my mind is blown! Thank you Hollywood Foreign Press and everyone involved in telling my story. And a huge hug to Paul Dano for his nomination this great morning! I’m now going back to bed for some sweet, sweet dreams. Gina Rodriguez, nominated in the Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy (Jane the Virgin). “Thank you! I mean really to be very honest I don’t think I could’ve asked for anything more,” she told the Today co-hosts. “I’m driving to work right now just so super thankful. It’s pretty pretty exciting and I’m shaking, so I’m trying to keep my hands on the steering wheel.”
Brie Larson, nominated in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama (Room): “What the heck, you guys? I can’t even figure this whole thing out…so, I was sitting between my parents and I still can’t tell if this is a dream or not. It feels so special,” she said on Today. “I mean this is beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined.”

Rob Lowe, nominated in the Best Actor in a TV Series, Comedy (The Grinder): “So proud and honored to be recognized. It’s truly a reflection of what a great part The Grinder is and more about my amazing collaborators that make me look good.”
Bob Odenkirk, Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama (Better Call Saul): “What an exciting surprise for me! The Hollywood Foreign Press have been so supportive and willing to see what we came up with on Better Call Saul, that means that they watched our work with an open mind. My fellow cast mates Michael McKean, Jonathan Banks, Rhea Seehorn, Michael Mando, Patrick Fabian and all the others are the reason why I’m doing good work, acting opposite their excellence would make anyone better. Of course the writing is primo! Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould continue to outdo themselves with unique story, and the switched character that I am ridiculously lucky to get to bring to life. I’d also like to take this nomination opportunity to also thank Bryan Cranston and the Breaking Bad gang for inspiring us and setting such a great standard we continue to try to emulate.”

I’m so excited, in particular, to be recognized for both Luther and Beasts of No Nation. For Luther, what better way to celebrate the end of a great run than with this stellar acknowledgement. As for Beasts, I can only hope this attention will get more people to see the brilliance of all that is Cary Fukunaga and my extraordinary co-star Abraham Attah. Alejandro González Iñárritu, Best Director – Motion Picture (The Revenant), “I can’t believe this time last year we were in Calgary shooting The Revenant, and right now I’m in London and just heard the good news! Eddie Redmayne, Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama (The Danish Girl): “I am incredibly grateful to the HFPA for having included me in such a brilliant troupe of actors. Queen Latifah, Best Actress in a Limited-Series or TV Movie (Bessie): “Thank you to the HFPA who have always been so supportive of all of my projects. This film is such a special one to me and I am thrilled to be recognized for my work as Bessie.”
Sarah Hay, Best Actress in a Limited-Series or TV Movie (Flesh and Bone): “I’ve never been more grateful and excited in my whole life. Thank you so much.”
Kirsten Dunst, Best Actress in a Limited-Series or TV Movie (Fargo): “So proud and excited to be nominated! Congratulations to Patrick and our show!”
Michael Shannon, Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture (99 Homes): “I’m so grateful to be acknowledged by the HFPA for my work. I know they are true devotees of the cinema and I can tell every time I speak with one of them how much they care about what they do.
