Benedict Cumberbatch Becomes Marvel’s Doctor Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch has thrilled us with his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, Khan in Star Trek and who can forget Smaug from the Hobbit series … now he has taken on the role of the upcoming Marvel movie’s Doctor Strange.

The movie centers around Doctor Stephen Strange. He is a masterful, arrogant surgeon that meets with an unfortunate accident, ruining his ability to save lives as he had become accustomed to doing. He progresses into despair as one tends to do when they feel their life has been destroyed … but for him it is merely a transition to bigger and greater things.

He is given a second chance by a sorcerer, who chooses him to be their apprentice and trains him how to defend the world against evil. To do this Strange must open his mind to new possibilities and realities … and embrace the strange, impossible and illogical new universe he is introduced to.

I think this is the first time I have heard Cumberpatch using an American accent … Perhaps it’s just me, but I am partial to his actual English accent. Either way, the world premiere trailer for Doctor Strange does prove to be both “strange” and fascinating.

It makes me think a little of the Matrix, with a touch of Dark City, Inception and a sprinkle of The Last Air Bender.

I know I can’t wait to see it.

Doctor Strange will hit theaters November 2016.
