Chicago Will Host Ferris Fest for 30th Anniversary of 80’s Teen Movie ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’

February 22, 2016 By Ellen Smith

Chicago is shaking it up for the 30th anniversary of the ultimate ’80s teen movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

From May 20 to 22, the city will host Ferris Fest, including a screening and film-themed events and tours that would make Bueller proud. The film was originally released on June 11, 1986.

The highlight could very well be the planned recreation of the parade in the film, in which Bueller commandeers a float and lip syncs while all of Chicago joins in the party. Ferris Fest organizers say the parade recreation will include “surprises.”

Film critic Richard Roeper is hosting the film screening on May 21 at the John and Nancy Hughes Theater in Lake Forest, with a Q&A with Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward (Ferris’ parents), as well as Jonathan Schmock, who played the pitiable French maître d’.

Two-day, two-part bus tours will take Ferris Fest-goers to filming locations including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Glenbrook North High School parking lot, Willis (formerly Sears) Tower, as well as the house where Ferris’ best friend Cameron lived.

Attendees will also be able to view a painstakingly recreated replica of Ferris’ room, produced by artist/designers Sarah Keenlyside and Joe Clement.

Three-day festival tickets are $300, individual Saturday and Sunday tickets are $175 each, and Friday’s opening-night party costs $25. You can find more info here.
