Early stages of today’s winter storm hitting in the Chicago area

Early stages of today’s winter storm hitting in the Chicago area

Winter storm, high wind and lakeshore flood warnings continue in effect across the Chicago area.

A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain driven by very strong east and northeast winds gusting in excess of 40 mph has been hitting the Chicago area this morning. Temperatures are hovering near to slightly below freezing with glazing reported especially on metal and elevated objects. In the city and areas closer to the lake pavements are mainly wet, but road surfaces and sidewalks  are getting slippery further inland.

Both Midway and O’Hare airports report many flight cancellations and delays as the weather takes its toll on air travel.
