MikMak is the first mobile video shopping network available for iOS devices. It was created and founded by Rachel Tipograph (former Global Director of Digital & Social Media at Gap and one of Forbes’ “30 under 30 Who Are Changing The World”).
MikMak’s funny, self aware and slightly NSFW voice captures the escapist nature of binge-watching in a shopping experience. It has super short, shoppable infomercials called “minimercials” (average 30 seconds). They are released nightly at 9 p.m. ET. Shoppers can watch and swipe through the new videos, buy directly from the videos and claim personalized prizes.
Beta users describe it as the “SNL and Broad City of shopping,” aided by some of the brightest and funniest comedians New York has to offer. Many are current performers at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. MikMak’s videos currently star New York comics like Anu Valia (College Humor, MTV), Josh Sharp (Vulture’s Comics You Should Know), Ashley Skidmore and Lyle Friedman (YoungerTV, #hotmessmoves) and many more.
Everything sold on MikMak brings utility and fun to someone’s life and is priced below $100. You can find everything from accessories, beauty products, gadgets, jewelry, homegoods and more on this new platform. Brands featured include Areaware, Leona Made, Lexon, Quirky, Soko, Sprout Products, etc. It’s an effortless blend of bite-sized videos that showcase products meant to be purchased on the iPhone.
MikMak Beta is available for free download in the Apple App Store. The iOS app will officially launch in June of 2015. No mention if this will ever be available for Android users just yet.
