Snow Turns to Rain as Temperatures Continue to Warm
Most of the frozen precipitation that hit the Chicago area today has now turned to liquid as area temperatures continue to climb. The area is now digging out from one of the biggest sleet events in years.
Officially O’Hare measured 1.9 inches while Midway logged 2.1 inches. Totals were heavier west and north of the city where St. Charles and Batavia had 3.0 inches and Carol Stream 2.5 inches.
West and north of Chicago in southeast Wisconsin and central Iowa, the precipitation fell as snow with amounts from 4 to 7 inches common. Thundersnow was reported from far northern portions of Lake and McHenry counties in northeast Illinois into southern Wisconsin earlier this evening.
